Summer Exhibition

Landscapes of the Peak District
By Kristan Baggaley
Starts Saturday 25th August until 7th October 2007

Sculptured paintings in oil and sand reveal the landscapes' exposure to the weather while Kristan reveals the luminosity of the edges with dramatic colour reflected from the sky onto the earth below. Some of these paintings are on a large scale inviting you to almost walk into a living environment of rocks and moorland heather while the impending weather looms above.

This area of the Peak District is called the Dark Peak and, with its gritstone features, offers a variety of contrasting light depending on the weather and time of day. Kristan's paintings in oil and sand capture that quality and the colours of the paintings themselves are seen to change in different light.

Kristan's style never stands still. He is always looking to try new ways of using traditional media. Some paintings in the exhibition are oil paint onto paper which, together with a softer pallet, create a completly different sense of light. These paintings have an altogether flatter surface to the paint in marked contrast to his work on canvas.
